- It is important to start the race with your tank full. You will use a lot of energy preparing and competing on race day so be prepared to eat a good pre-race meal. I’m a big fan of carbo loading. I eat a huge pasta dinner the night before a big race. Usually I’m not that hungry in the morning following the big dinner but I’ll try to eat a muffin or two before I get ready for the race.
- During a race I usually just drink PowerAde. I don’t eat gels but at the same time I need to drink more than just water. If I know that I’ll be out on the race course for 4 hours then I need to keep hydrating throughout the race from just after the first hour to the last 15 minutes.”
